Scrapbooking and Card-Making Group
Thursday, October 5th 1:00pm – 3:00pm at the Esther Bone Memorial Library
Scrapbooking is the popular art of preserving family history and cherished memories with items such as photographs, artwork, and other mementos. Bring your supplies and creativity to join this group of scrapbookers for an afternoon of socializing and sharing ideas.
Teen Creative Writing Club
Thursday, October 5th 3:30pm – 4:30pm at Loma Colorado Main Library
Do you have some work you’ve been dying to share? Are you looking for a group that will push you past your writer’s block? Are you looking for tips and tricks to hone your skills? Join Loma Colorado Library’s Teen Creative Writing Club.
Celebrate Indigenous People’s Day with Chris Toya of Jemez Pueblo
Saturday, October 7th 4:30pm – 5:30ppm at The HUB @ Enchanted Hills
Learn about the history and culture of the native people of Sandoval County with Chris Toya, the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer and Archeologist with the Jemez Pueblo.
Documentary: "California Typewriter: A Love Letter to a Dying Technology"
Saturday, October 14th 12pm – 2pm at Loma Colorado Main Library
Cultural historians, collectors, and various celebrity obsessives, including Tom Hanks, David McCullough, Sam Shepard, and John Mayer, launch us into the bittersweet moment when a beloved-but-dying technology, the typewriter, faces extinction. Also available with your library card on Kanopy.
A manual typewriter will also be on hand to try out!
Terrific Tuesday
Tuesday, October 17th 3:00pm – 5:00pm at Loma Colorado Main Library
Join us each week for a different adventure! Every Terrific Tuesday will include one activity that can take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. This week participants will create eye-catching collages! Come and go, for ages 6-17 years old.
Song-Writers’ Critique Group
Sunday, October 22nd 10:30am – 12pm at The HUB at Enchanted Hills
Join songwriter Annie Benjamin and other local songwriters of varying experience for a critique group. Bring your acoustic instrument and perform an original song. Other musicians will provide you with constructive critiques to help improve your skills and hone your art in a casual and supportive environment.
Terrific Tuesday
Tuesday, October 24th 3:00pm – 5:00pm at Loma Colorado Main Library
Join us each week for a different adventure! Every Terrific Tuesday will include one activity that can take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. This week participants will bind their own simple notebooks! Come and go, for ages 6-17 years old.
Eyes in the Skies: A Drone Demonstration
Tuesday, October 24th 5:30pm – 6:30pm at Loma Colorado Main Library
Drones are fast becoming an important tool, used by many. Staff will enlighten the audience about the growing use of drones. One day, Drones, or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, may deliver library books to home bound library patrons. The program will include a live demonstration, followed by a hands-on opportunity to fly a drone. There will also be a Leap Motion station for patrons to interact with Google Earth and fly around digitally. Registration is required for this event.
NaNoWriMo Plot Bunny Prep Party
Sunday, October 29th 1pm – 2pm at The HUB @ Enchanted Hills
Join us for the kick-off of NaNoWriMo 2023!
The Plot Bunny Prep Party is a meet-and-greet at The HUB @ Enchanted Hills to introduce WriMos to the space, the resources we provide, the ins and outs of NaNoWriMo, and the basics of November’s Write-Ins taking place at The HUB.

The Importance of the Oral History and the Discovery of the Hemingway Autograph
Friday, November 3rd 10:00am – 11:00m at Loma Colorado Main Library
Learn about the importance of oral histories, and how they can be of benefit to your family and community. In addition, hear how the Rio Rancho Public Library re-discovered a long-lost Ernest Hemingway autograph, and the role that an oral history played in the story of the autograph.
College Essay Workshop (for Teens)

It’s hard to write about yourself, and some college application prompts are downright confusing. Luckily, the Loma Colorado Library is here to help! Come to the Loma Colorado Library for help writing and/or workshopping your college application essay(s).
Local Author Fair
Saturday, November 4th 10am – 3pm
20+ local authors will be on hand to talk about their books, many will also have copies available to sign and sell. There will panel discussions about the writing process.
Keynote speaker will be Rio Rancho native Vaunda Micheaux Nelson - Coretta Scott King award-winning author of "Bad News for Outlaws: The Remarkable Life of Bass Reeves, Deputy U.S. Marshall." She will be talking about her new book "Small Shoes, Great Strides: How THREE BRAVE GIRLS Opened Doors to SCHOOL EQUALITY" which will be released on November 7th.
- Book sales by Local Authors begin at 10am and continues through 2pm.
- Panel Discussions with the authors begin at 11am, 12pm, and 1pm.
- Sandoval County Genealogical Society will be on hand from 10am - 12pm.
- Croak and Dagger - Sisters in Crime (NM Chapter) will be in attendance.
- Keynote address by Vaunda Micheaux Nelson will be at 2pm.
(Book sales will be made directly by the authors, please be prepared with cash and credit cards if you wish to make purchases.)
