Changes to Your Recycling Program

Beginning October 1, 2019, your recycling will be collected every other week instead of once a week. To view Waste Management's presentation to the Governing Body in June 2019 regarding this change, click here.  To view their presentation from July 24, 2019 and additional information, click here.

Policy changes made by China in relation to importing recycled materials has resulted in an oversupply of materials and depressed commodity pricing, which has generated cost increases for community recycling programs across the U.S. So, in order to retain recycling services, while still minimizing the cost impact to residents, the City of Rio Rancho and Waste Management agreed to collect recycling every other week and implement a minimal cost increase.

Will my bill go up?

Yes. The price of recycling will increase October 1, 2019, by $0.18 per month.

When will my new collection day be? Your recycling will be picked up every other week on the same day as trash. Please visit to view an interactive service map or call Waste Management at 505-892-1200.
