District 6
On April 27, 2023, District 6 City Councilor Dan Stoddard announced his resignation to focus on family and health-related matters. Councilor Stoddard’s last day in office is May 26, 2023.
Those interested in filling the District 6 City Council seat can submit a letter of interest and résumé to Mayor Greggory Hull. Required information can be submitted via the City’s website, www.rrnm.gov/CD6vacancy, beginning at noon on May 12, 2023 and by no later than 5 p.m. on May 30, 2023. Mayor Hull’s vetting process will include reviewing all submitted materials and interviewing applicants.
To be eligible for appointment to fill the District 6 City Council seat, an individual must:
- Reside in Rio Rancho in City Council District 6; and
- Over 18 years of age; and
- Registered voter of Rio Rancho; and
- No felony convictions.
Pursuant to the City’s Charter, when a vacancy in a City Council seat occurs, the Mayor shall appoint a qualified successor within 60 days of the vacancy, subject to Governing Body confirmation. If the Governing Body does not accept the Mayor’s appointment, the Mayor shall appoint another individual within 45 days, subject to Governing Body confirmation. The process of mayoral appointment and Governing Body consideration of the appointment continues until the Governing Body has confirmed an appointee of the Mayor to fill the position.
The appointed and confirmed individual for the District 6 City Council seat will serve until the City’s next regular municipal election taking place in March 2024 is completed and newly elected officials are sworn in and take office. This person’s salary will be equivalent to $19,772.20 annually, and they, along with eligible family members, will be entitled to medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage as provided to other City employees.
The person elected by voters in 2024 to fill the District 6 City Council seat will have a four-year term that ends in 2028.
