From 2020 to 2021, the City of Rio Rancho constructed its second Senior Center, located at 3241 Broadmoor Boulevard. The new facility, which is situated in City Center near City Hall, will open to the public in October 2021.
The completed Broadmoor Senior Center will host a variety of life-long learning activities and services for Rio Rancho and area senior citizens, such as health, fitness and nutrition classes; art, cultural and technology activities and classes; social activities and events; and hosting weekday meal service provided by Sandoval County Senior Services.
In 2016, the State of New Mexico’s Aging and Long-Term Services Department awarded $3.4 million from voter-approved General Obligation Bonds for Senior Facilities to the City of Rio Rancho, with $3,366,000 for the purpose of planning, designing and constructing a new senior Center in the City of Rio Rancho in Sandoval County; and the remaining $34,000 allocated to Art In Public Places. Additionally, in 2020, the City of Rio Rancho and the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center entered into a land-lease partnership enabling the senior center to be constructed at its current location. Construction of Phase 1 of the facility began in July 2020 and was completed in the summer of 2021.
