Library Cards and Checkout Information
Click for more details
The Rio Rancho Public Library (RRPL) encourage everyone to have a library card and provide a number of card types to meet the needs of all patrons. New Mexico residents who provide photo ID and proof of address receive cards with full privileges.
Other cards are available for children, out-of-state visitors, and those who do not have photo ID or proof of address.
Library Card Features:
- Library cards are not transferable. Do not lend your card. Cardholders are responsible for all items checked out on their card.
- The Rio Rancho Public Library does not charge daily late fees. We will contact you if items become overdue.
- Please contact us if your card is lost or stolen so we can freeze your account.
- The cardholder is responsible if items are lost or returned damaged.
- Rio Rancho Public Library cards can be used at all Rio Rancho branches.
Renewing Your Library Card
- Library cards expire every three years to enable us to make sure the contact information is current.
- Please visit either library and bring your library card, photo ID, and proof of address to have your card renewed.
Checking Out & Returning Items
Rio Rancho Public Library items can be checked out and returned to either branch.
Mis-returned Items
Items from other library systems are sometimes returned to the Rio Rancho Public Library. There is no tracking mechanism for mis-returned items. The Library is not responsible for mis-returned items that are lost. If you think you may have returned an item in error, please contact the checkout desk at the branch where you returned it. The Rio Rancho Public Library has a verbal reciprocal arrangement for the return of items to/from other local libraries. This happens on an irregular basis.
Questions
If you have any questions about your account or checking out items, speak to someone at the checkout desk or call Library Customer Service at (505)891-5013 ext 3081.

Collection Agency
The Rio Rancho Public Libraries do not have daily overdue fees. However, when items are excessively overdue the item will be billed to the customer’s account and the account may be sent to a collection agency. Referring the account to the collection agency only occurs after multiple notices have been sent by the library and is an effort to recover library materials. Once library materials are returned, the bill for their replacement is waived.
When accounts are referred to a collection agency there will be a $15 fee added to the patron’s account. This cost is for the collection agency service and is non-negotiable.
When items are overdue the library sends multiple notices, including 3 days prior to the due date and 14 days following the due date. If an item is 42 days overdue the account is referred to the collection agency.
Upon the account being referred, the collection agency will pursue the return of library materials according to its notification schedule. If after 120 days the patron has not settled the account it will be reported to the three major credit reporting agencies.

The Loma Colorado Main Library offers test proctoring at no charge. Proctoring takes place during the library’s opening hours which are: Monday 9am-8pm, Tuesday-Thursday 9am-7pm, Friday-Saturday 9am-5pm. All proctoring is done by a librarian and must start a half hour after opening and finish a half hour before closing.
To schedule a proctored exam please fill out this form. You will be contacted in 24-48 hours.
Given staff availability, there is a need to schedule in advance. We ask for a one-week notice prior to the test being administered.
Additionally, the following guidelines apply:
- The student must fill out a Student Proctoring Form and submit it to the proctor. No proctored exams will be given without a student proctoring form.
- It is the student’s responsibility to make sure that the proctor receives the proctoring instructions, exam (if written) and access code (if online) by contacting the school’s testing center or professor.
- The proctor helps library customers at a busy reference desk during the proctoring and will not be able to watch the student at all times.
- The library’s desktop computers are not within sight of the proctor at the reference desk. If the school or testing center allows, students may use wireless laptops with the understanding that a wireless connection is not as reliable.
- The library reserves the right to substitute a proctor if the proctor of record is not at the library at the time of the test.
- The student will be required to present a photo ID at the time of the exam.
- There is no guarantee of quiet.
- Proctors will enforce any time limits that are placed on the exam, as well as any other rules set forth in the exam materials.
- Any perceived violation of the posted rules for the exam will be reported to the educational institution.
- Librarians cannot proctor tests that students bring in themselves.
- Librarians will not sign a proctoring verification that attests to more than the staff member has been able to do.
- The library will not be responsible for tests that are interrupted by library emergencies, power failures, or computer hardware or software failures.
- The library will not be responsible for any completed tests once they leave the library’s possession and have been mailed or transmitted back to the educational institution.

The Rio Rancho Library and Information Services department displays art in order to foster community collaboration and the enjoyment of art and objects. Art is exhibited and collections displayed at both branches. Viewing of the art may be unavailable during library programs taking place in the auditorium. Current exhibits are announced on our Facebook page and on the calendar of events.
We welcome community members to submit the art exhibit interest form for their work to be considered.
For a full explanation of the process, read the art exhibit guidelines.
Once you fill out the form, you will be contacted by a librarian about the status of your proposal. We regret that we are unable to accommodate all requests. Program Proposals
The Rio Rancho Public Library offers a large array of programs for children, teens, adults, and families. To see a list of our current programs, please visit the Calendar of Events.
If you would like to present a program, please submit your proposal using the program proposal form. This form will be submitted to all programming librarians at both libraries. Please note, submitting a proposal does not guarantee it will be accepted. Programs are booked at least three months in advance. If we are able to book your program, we will contact you. If you are asking for a fee, please note that you will need to have a business license on file with the City of Rio Rancho and have filled out a vendor packet to receive payment.
Keep Informed
We send out a monthly adult program email, if you would like to receive it, please sign up here .
